A tailor made funeral

Kate is an independent funeral celebrant who will help you to create a unique and fitting ceremony for your loved one. The ceremony can include Humanist, Buddhist, Christian or elements from other spiritual traditions. Kate will always come to your home and spend as much time with you as needed. She will talk with you and your family about your loved one and what mattered to them. She will then create an individual unique service that celebrates your loved one's life and values.

Many people today regard themselves as ‘non-religious’ and do not regularly attend a church or other place of worship. However when it comes to the funeral or memorial service, the bereaved family may wish for a favourite hymn, a prayer or spiritual reading to be included. Kate will ask you what beliefs your loved one held and she will acknowledge and include those beliefs in the service. Many people would like a prayer or blessing to help send their loved one ‘on their way’. Kate can help you with choices of music, readings and the overall structure of the service.

She has over 12 years of experience conducting Cremation, Burial and Woodland Burial services.

If you wish to have an Order of Service created, Kate will write the text and send it to the Funeral Director to get it printed. She will show you copies of different kinds of Order of Service to help you choose your own design or template. If you are designing and printing your own Order of Service she will write the text and give any help to create this; including designs to stimulate your own creativity and what would be most appropriate for your loved one. Please note that an Order of Service is not essential for the ceremony.

Kate officiated at my Father's Funeral this year and her support was invaluable. Before, during and after. Kate asks great questions and helped me and my sister create a unique and deeply personal service. Her presence on the day was grounded and peaceful. Her voice incredibly soothing. I got exactly what I needed and she made a profound impact on the rest of the mourners. Bespoke funerals are the way to truly complete this rite of passage and Kate's wisdom and guidance was invaluable.

Meeting the family

Kate meets with the family at their home, another location, or by phone and email. She gets to know about the life of your loved one and what they meant to you. Out of this conversation the ceremony is created to include the content and wording exactly as the family wish it to be.

It will be a celebration of their life, a time of reflection and an opportunity for the family to connect to their feelings and hopefully feel supported and uplifted by the service. All the elements of the service will reflect the spirit of the person and be a moving and uplifting service for all.

Kate's intention is to be a stable support for the family and to help you to start to come to terms with your loss in a meaningful appropriate way that is fitting for you and for them.

To create and write the ceremony we will need to see if there are any advance funeral wishes in place. Any requests or wishes will be reflected in the final ceremony.

Kate will send you a copy of the service after the home visit. A few days later when you have had a chance to look through the ceremony, she will phone you and you can discuss any final amendments so that the service is a really fitting tribute to your loved one.

Non Religious or Gently Religious?

I do my best to help you have what you want and what your loved one would have wanted on this special occasion. The ceremony may be non religious, a celebration of life without prayers or reference to God or an afterlife. Equally it could be a gently religious ceremony which reflects your loved one's faith and beliefs.

The service is created in response to your needs and the needs of your loved one. If a conversation (with no obligation) would be helpful to you regarding your choices and the practicalities, do get in touch.

If you have found me through this website do call, or you can ask your funeral directors to get in touch with me. My fee is paid by the funeral directors, and is £200, including travel and other costs.

If the service is outside of London the cost is £250 plus travel expenses.
